On Friday, we left Xi'an to go to Beijing. We left our cousins in Xi'an to go back to Shanghai, while we flew to Beijing. When we got there, we were greeted by our grandparents while we went to our hotel. When we left, we went to see the bird's nest and water cube.
We were going to go inside the bird's nest, but they were charging 60 RMB to go in, roughly $8.80 in US money per person. What a rip-off! Almost $53 for 6 people to go in! After that, we had dinner. Which by the way, was probably more impressive than the bird's nest and water cube combined. There must have been 7 appetizers, 5 entrees, and dessert! And the whole thing was probably $150 a person! There was everything from asparagus to sugar-coated apple and every thing inbetween, including giant shrimp, goeduck clam, braised ox-tail (???), expensive foie gras (duck liver, people like it!), and best of all, their specialty: buttery, juicy, melt-in-your mouth peking (Pay-king, not Peeking, Beijing was originally was Peking) duck. In two forms; roasted whole, and in a meatball form. Roasted whole and cut into chunks and served
, And ground up and put in a sweet-sour sauce.
